Cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago usually get all the shine, but between these teeming centers are other, lesser known places. For every Manhattan, New York, there’s a Manhattan, Kansas, with a history, people and culture that’s also worth exploring. In “Local: A Quarterly of People and Places,” these overlooked communities get a forum to celebrate and preserve their heritage. Each issue focuses on a single town and reports on it sincerely, from Main Street to the individual citizens who give the place its pulse. Local wants to tell the neglected American narrative, one community at a time. Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, is the subject of the first issue, most of which debuts on Flipboard today and is also available in print.
